Lake Wales Rally
May 24-27, 2018
What fun we had making Lake Wales our little piece of Hawaii.
Our island experience started out at Norby’s Restaurant, not too Hawaiian but delicious steaks and anything else our hearts and stomachs desired
Friday found us at the clubhouse and indoor pool. We had a badminton competition won by Gil Snyder and Sue Rineer. A trivia contest testing our knowledge of Hawaii, won by Nidia Bernstiel, and a Find-a-word contest won by Becky Greor. The pool contests, bucket brigades trying to fill bigger buckets first, were won by one “he” and one “she”team. Prizes were awarded and the ice cream social was enjoyed by all.
After a delicious potluck dinner host Phil Alagna wished happy birthday to Bill Hill and to six other members in absentia. We wished Happy Anniversary to Bob and Chris Cimino, Tom and JoAnn Giebner, Jay and Barbara Sheridan and two other couples in absentia. We wished Ray and Carol Sacchetti Happy 63rd anniversary on June 9th! An evening of games followed.
Saturday found us eating again, fortified for the day with a delicious breakfast prepared by our hosts. Many ladies made floral necklaces under the direction of Lynn Hill. They looked festive at our Luau.
The luau began with each of us being “leied” by our hosts, and admiring each others’ Hawaiian shirts and attire. After a dinner catered by Sonny’s Barbecue there was one more Hawaiian contest, who could do the best hula. We learned the hand signs for the hula from the men contestants, Tom Coniglio, Mike Flanagan and Tom Giebner. Then Sheri Muller, Barbara Sheridan, Becky Geror, and Lucy Bancroft competed in the ladies category and were lithe and accomplished. Gil Snyder, Bruce Muller and Karen Coniglio were judges and after a reprise performance, decided the prizes went to Tom Coniglio and Lucy Bancroft. What fun we had laughing and at various and unorthodox interpretations of the art of real hula dancing!
Thanks to our hosts Diane and Phil Alagna and Lynn and Bill Hill we all set out for our summer adventures with full tummies and fond memories.
Safe travels to all Treasure Coasters who will be on the road this summer and fond memories of the summer to all of us. We look forward to starting a new TC year October at Wilderness Campground in Silver Springs.
